If the legendary Pokéon is defeated, it will become a part of your squad and will always be one level above your trainer level. A legendary can be used in any match that is a 2 on 2 or higher, although it may be used in a 1 on 1 match with the consent of both trainers beforehand. Legendary Pokéon on a trainer's squad are only considered to be slightly more powerful than other Pokéon, but they will also be permitted to have a slightly more powerful signature move than usual. Any Pokémon with the ability to change Formes must do so in the Hidden Power and Forme thread. Only Meloetta may change Formes mid-battle via Relic Song, but can only change Formes once per battle. She is considered to be in the Aria Forme by default. Additionally, some Legendary Pokémon may not use certain event moves. The following moves are illegal:

Darkrai will not be allowed to use its event moves of Roar of Time and Spatial Rend.
Victini will not be allowed to use its event moves of Fusion Flare, Fusion Bolt, Blue Flare, Bolt Strike and Glaciate.
